Well..........it was a matter of time, but I spit out a CV joint today. I've been running my stock '74 axles/CVs and I don't think they like my 3.6 as much as I do!!
I'd like to keep my tranny output flanges and hubs for now and was curious what could be done to beef up my stock axles/CVs?? I remember some crap about bus axles?? It was totally my fault and now I have the greasy hands to pay for it. I've been taking it failrly easy with hole shots, but I got on it kinda hard today and "clunk", "clunk", slip. Thankfully, I was only a couple blocks fromo home and my LSD got me home. I'll post carnage pics tomorrow. |

Current setup:
stock early hubs (w/stud bosses) re-drilled for 5 lug. stock '74 914-4 axles/CVs. 915 tranny w/early flanges (match up to stock 914 CVs) I'm tempted to shell out the 1200 bux for PMS Carrera axles and call the problem solved, but was curious what other options were worth checking out. I see two paths........1) keep my stock re-drilled hubs/stubs and tranny flanges and go with some sort of conversion piece and beefier (bus) CVs or 2) replace the whole damn thing from tranny flange to hub with 911 or 944 type goodies. |
