i have a set of old school bbs mahle rims, that i would like to refinish.....
it was recomended that i use aluminum oxide or garnet to take the original finish off....i am not sure if they are powder coated or another type of finish...i would leave them be...but they are really scratched up......the finish is fairly thick..... they are not going to be polished , just paint...... |

Make sure you get ALL of that stuff off and neutralized before you start to paint or you WILL be sorry! I would also recommend glassbeading them for a nice even finish prior to painting. If you choose to powder coat them, aluminum oxide will werk also. I suggest glass bead for painting omly because it leaves a smoother finish. Paint over aluminum oxide blasting will leave etch marks that powder will fill in. I speak from several years of experience as a painter and now a powder coater !
