Driving down the highway southbound this morning and in the northbound lane a rock truck loses his rear axle which bounces over the center median and come within inches of hitting me in the 914 and just misses a cayenne turbo that was next to me. Holy shit! Thank god for my little car's ablility to swerve hard at high speeds, otherwise you would be reading my obituary.

Glad you're ok. My 914's PO was driving on Hwy. 280 in the SF South Bay area when a three-piece wheel on the truck in front of him disintegrated. Half of the outer rim bounced off the pavement and embedded itself in the front trunklid - a few feet more and the result would have been much worse.
Another friend, unfortunately, was on the same section of road almost 20 years later when a similar incident happened - the wheel went through the windshield and killed him. Here in Phoenix, road debris incidents are common - covered loads are a rarity. |
