It's all very well possible that the rings were sealing off when it went way lean, breaking the wring lands, with the change to the new LE200 heads that make way more power than the previous heads. The previous results (and fuel map) were skewed from leakdown from the heads from weak castings that let loose, not the rings, which can be admittedly very difficult to hear with all the fi stuff bolted on the engine.
Dave did mention that he had pulled the breathers and put them to puke cans before experiencing the audible detonation on that hill before getting towed home, and found they were full. I'm thinking it was the chicken and the egg here. Who knows what really came first to be honest. Regardless, Jake's going to be assembling the engine and I will have the cylinders here to go through them with a fine tooth comb and refurbish them prior to reassembly. Together we'll get it right, that's for sure. |
