Ok, so my '76 2.0 that I've been working on forever is now once again calling my attention, now that I'm back from college for the summer.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
Last summer, we painted it and made it all pretty, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) but that's not too important when it wont go anywhere to begin with. So when I took it out to try and figure out my phantom 4th gear problem (another thread i'll start when this one is resolved (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) ) I noticed it had no (and I mean none at all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif) ) power when I was mashing the gas in 2nd and 3rd gears. And going up hill was barely possible, I kept it floored and it 'surged' on and off (several seconds on then several off) up the hill at an average speed of about 5mph. But I had to leave for school and then it started when I came back. I took the car out a week ago (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) , it seemed to pull really well (though maybe not as warm as before) and only stuttered a little at like 4500 rpm. The idle is still a bit wacky (sometimes at 2000, other times at 1000-1100). And I noticed that if I blip the trottle, it will jump up to 3000 or so real quick, then slowly ( 2+ seconds) return to idle. I checked for vacuum leaks and everything "looks" alright. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I noticed if I disconnected the vacuum hose from the base of the throttle body 'platform' that leads over to the... well I dont know what it is (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) (silver, about the size of a peanut butter jar with vacuum, fuel?, and computer hookup) that when it was plugged at the throttle body, the engine revved up and down at regular speed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) Ok, enough writing. I'm no where near a 914 expert, but I am an engineering student and I'll be damned if I cant fix this. I went around today and drove the car around town a little (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) and got it really warm, and it seems its still having problems when I open up the throttle, it just bogs down (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif) . The same deal around 3000 rpm when it just goes nowhere (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) . So maybe I'm back to square one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
