I bought a complete front suspension that was supposed to be an '84 Carrera but checking the rotor thickness it appears to be a ~1980 911s. But regardless it has 3 1/2" caliber spacing. I plan to keep my steering box & crossmember and probably sell off the aluminum one. I've got it all cleaned up and painted and have a few questions. Also I'd like to know what problems I might run into and if anyone has any tips.
What I'm curious about now is;
1. Where do the wheels end up compared to the 914? I do have flares.
2. I notice the lug studs are really long and look like they'll have to be cut off.
3. The torsion bars are marked L & R but is there a front & rear? are the splines of the 911 the same as the 914-4 and the adjusters the same?
4. Are the tie rod ands the same (I plan to buy new ones)?
5. Any difficulties rebuilding the calibers?
Appreciate any voice of experience.

I think the wheels end up pretty close to where they were, someone else will know for sure, but with flares you'll be fine.
I wouldn't cut the studs, I'd replace them with shorter studs, but wait until you know for sure.
I'm sure 911 torsion bars and 914 torsion bars have different splines, I think only at the front. I think the adjusters are the same, but I don't remember, it's been 8 years since I went through this.
The tie rods are the same, but I'd put turbo tie rods on while you have it apart. try to get the German ones. The cheapos have really crappy boots that don't last.
The calipers are easier to rebuild than 914 rears, that's for sure. They're the same to rebuild as 914 fronts, as far as difficulty, the parts are obviously different.
