I have loved 914`s for a long time. I finally found one and they are asking 2000. I think I can get it for 1800 if I haggle. The only things that I have noticed are that the exhaust is hooked up kind of weird. There appears to be some sort of bellows ( acordian) looking linkage between the engine and the down pipe. Not sure if that is a bandaid or if it is supposed to be there. Also the e-brake is missing. There is no handle or anything that I can see. I checked the battery area and there is no rust. There is a little bit of oil leak under but nothing horrible. The drivers side door has a little bondo near the handle. I drove it and it handles good and the engine seems responsive. It has redline carbs if that makes a difference. I am thinking that a little body work / paint and a new exhaust and it would pass inspection. Anyone know how much I am looking at for an exhaust and the e-brake assembly.
Thanks. |

Joe - My '72 didn't have an ebrake because the handle mount rusted off! Remove the drivers seat immediately and poke around. The stuff on top is tar, underneath is the metal. Some holes are not visible through the tar, but the rust holes are visible underneath. I spent >$1k having new floorboards installed, but the longs are solid and the car is stucturally sound.
I recently put on a loud racing exhaust, and have the quiet OEM muffler and upgraded stainless steel heat exchangers for sale in the Classifieds...I will sell these a bit below list price of $400 as my ad is getting old and I need to clear out my garage! make me an offer if this sounds good to you Good luck (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |
