I finally decided to part with my 914-6 that I have owned since 1978. I was hoping to get some advice regarding the value of the car. The car was last driven in 1982, has approx. 80,000 miles. It is in need of a complete restoration in my opinion. Needs paint...pretty good body, straight with some minor rust in the rear trunk near the lights, and the front trunk seal area. The engine has not been started in 25 years, yet is complete and 99% original with matching numbers and a certificate from Porsche. The only changes that I am aware of are stainless fuel lines and 2 post oil sender. Still a stock 2.0 ltr. The targa top is smooth and painted and the targa sails have had the vinyl removed.

I have been checking ebay for comps, but the prices seem all over the place.
I would really appreciate some honest evaluations. I have not messed with the car much in the last 20 years and don't know much about repair cost today nor parts prices or availability.

Thanks for your help.

Why consider the 914-6 that the owner wants north of $40,000 excessive? I'd love to see them go for that sort of money someday. I remember when Speedsters were cheap and unwanted, now they're through the roof. The 914-6 is possibly the next Speedster (hopefully)?

I had heard of a 914-6 selling for $32,000 a year or so ago, so maybe the market is stretching the limits.

I don't think that it is excessive for a completely original car. This car seems to be described as "the little old lady car" but it has Fuchs in one set of pictures, steel wheels in an other. Most of the exterior trim has been replaced. It is described as one of the finest examples of 914-6's...is it? I don't know but I'm sure plenty of people here would know.

But, I do agree with you I think the six is finally getting the attention it deserves.
