I need to make up a gearbox shift linkage that is salt water resistant/proof.

Favorite sources for Spherical Rod ends from 304 or better Stainless (Or Bronze if such a part exists).

Yeah, we use aurora bearings for the rod ends in our buoys out at sea that are exposed to the environment and ~50 tons of force (2" ID, probably a little bigger than you need). They have a special liner for salt water applications that you have to specify seperately.
