I stopped at my local machine shop to check on the progress on my head repair.

The first of four photos is the exhaust valve punched into the head splitting the intake seat. (Very hard!) The valve was punched into the head about 3/4" The port was split and buldged.

It wasn't cheaper and faster to buy a replacement head? Seems like a lot of expensive work.

Here's the problem. I brought these heads to a shop that specializes in heads. They told me $ 900.00 Plus parts. Considering these heads had been repaired and cut I asked the specialist if he could tell me if the heads had been cut too much already. The guy didn't know how to check. I gave him instructions on the method to check them. Turns out they are on the limit.

I purchased a replacement set of used heads for $ 1000.00 (needing a valve job)

After my specialist experience I decided to educate the local shop. They checked the heads I bought and discovered they had been cut below spec.

So, back to getting mine repaired.

These heads are euro spec "S" heads. The ports are bigger, the valves are bigger, the combustion chambers are smaller.

The euro "S" heads are like rectangle port closed chamber Big Block Chev heads

The US heads are like oval port open chamber Big Block Chev heads
