I was just thinking about the direction Porsche is taking with their cars in recent years. I know they have to make a profit to keep independent, but I think they have lost sight of who they are, and they are trying to compete with Mercedes and BMW with luxury sports cars and SUV's, which are really just overpriced status symbols. I think pure sports cars are what Porsche does best, and one should stick to what one does best. I know Porsche is making the Carerra GT, but, really... $440000? I think that if VW bought Porsche, Porsche would be able to make the cars they make best again, without worrying about staying afloat. Even though the whine-and-cheese crowd will raise hell, I think it would be cool to see VW and Porsche working together again, kind of like 2 long-lost brothers. What do you think? Although even VW probably doesnt have the kind of money to buy a supermarque like Porsche...

Porsche's aren't overpriced status symbols? People need 350 hp?

And no company can afford to have a division losing money. Even if VW bought Porsche, the Porsche division would still have to make money. If they're not, it's called dead weight.

It would be nice to let Porsche just make neat-o cars that we could all afford, but it's not very realistic. VW is the people's car, Porsche ois the rich people's car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
