A friend of mine is the daughter of Jimmy "Cowboy" Bryan. He won three AAA-USAC National titles and the Indianapolis 500 in 1958. It was his victory at Monza in the Race of Two Worlds in Italy in 1957 that brought him to the attention of the European racing press. In 1958 he returned to Monza for another Race of Two Worlds and finished second to Jim Rathman. In 1960, Bryan, 33, died in a first-lap crash.
His daughter got a phone call from a guy who say he has her dads 58 Pontiac Bonny convertable (the Indy Pace car) he won for winning Indy that year. She would like to help the current owner to identify the car if it is her dads old car. All she can remember is that the car was taken to AZ after the race and her mom can't remember who it was sold to. She checked with the speedway historian who told her the records from those years were destroyed. Anyone think of a way to trace the history of this car? The current owner would like to restore it to it's Pace Car colours if it is the right car. |
