I just pulled the drive train out of my 914 last week in preparation for some hell-hole repairs. While I was cleaning the engine up I found the vent tube in 3/4 head was missing all together! There was only a hole where it should have been. Are these vents necessary? I've noticed that some 1.7 heads have them and some don't. I don't know if I should try to replace the tube, replace the whole head, or just plug the hole and call it good.

Thanks,
-Rob
