I have a late 1974 2.0 with the evaporative control system (charcoal canister) mounted in the engine bay back wall. The small plastic line runs from the back wall of the engine bay through the center tunnel to the gas tank compartment along the same route as the fuel lines.

After putting my car back together during a rotisserie restoration I realized the small plastic line was not in the gas tank compartment. This was after I installed the gas tank and front hood. The small plastic line was likely pulled back into the center tunnel when I pulled out the plastic fuel lines and installed new stainless steel lines. The engine compartment portion of the plastic line is still there and seems to have the correct amount of line coming out of the center tunnel.

I would like to keep the evoporative control system functional if possible. Is there a reasonable way to find and pull out the plastic line or should I try to run a new line in the same location or maybe a different location? Is it likely the plastic line is kinked and will not be functional if I can find it and pull it out? Is there a better way to do this?
