After lowering the front end of the car by an inch, the steering geometry needed a check as well. So first, I had to track down a specialist who would be able to do the 914's geo. The Dutch Porsche forum came up with the answer! A wheel and tire shop only 5 mins away from my house! I'd heared about them, but not in relation with Porsches.
Next thing I found out that I would need shims to adjust the rear wheels. But I decided "Who dares, wins" and went without shims. Just to hope for the best. So I entered a shop that looked like an operating theatre! I was welcomed by Eric, the mechanic. Long story short: the car didn't need shims at the back (phewwww): the geo at the end was within limits. At the front, things needed adjustment - off course. But that wasn't too hard. Within 45 mins I was out again and the steering feels a lot more secure! Total costs: 60 euros. Things are getting better by the day. (Tomorrow, a guy from the insurance company comes over for an appraisel report: he will determine the car's market value. I have done business with that man before. I also did the appraisal on my TR and Saab 96. In both cases, I was happy with the outcome. I'll let you know what the 'verdict' will be!) Menno |
