Aloha!
New 914 owner here. So it's been raining in Hawaii the last few weeks so I have been stuck in the garage and I had the time to upgrade the old skool incandescent bulbs on my foglights to new high-tech LEDs. This upgrade changes the OEM BA20s socket to the much more common BA15s socket. It's quite difficult to find many BA20s bulbs, although it is apparently still used in China for moped headlights. This is a somewhat destructive upgrade since you have to dremel off the old positive copper contact to fit the new socket in. ![]() I pulled the old positive wire off the binding post and used the binding post to secure the new BA15s socket inside the old BA20s socket. The BA15s sockets are the most basic ones on Amazon. I went ahead and replaced the 20g wire that came with the new BA15s socket for the positive contact with the 16g that came off of the old BA20s. I just pulled off the old wire and soldered on the 16g one, then used a small piece of heat shrink. I had to drill out the center hole on the BA15s sockets a tiny bit to accommodate the bigger wire. I had to dremel off one side of the mounting on the new BA15s to fit inside the housing. ![]() ![]() Then I made a pigtail for the ground since the binding post is isolated from the case. I crimped a small ring terminal to the old ground lead. I used a single screw to secure the new socket within the old socket and the new ground lead. ![]() ![]() Drop the new socket assembly into the lens and snap on the back housing and it's done! ![]() The sockets were $4 on Amazon, the LED bulbs were $20 and it took less than an hour.
