After I installed my new alternator, I noticed the cable for my heater boxes appeared to have more slack. So much slack the driver side wouldn't open at all. I have adjusted it (it's now like an inch down the wire rather than the stub end) and it works again, but how does this come together in the tunnel? How did I suddenly get all the slack? Both sides are like this but the driver side is worse.

When I was working on the alternator the heater box was on the driveway below the cable guide into the firewall. I left the cables connected.
