Changed oil yesterday (have not started car yet), and purposely added the whole gallon of oil.. which is actually marked as 3.7 liters (technically less than a full gallon). So yea, that's .21 quarts over the recommended level of 3.5L. Doesn't seem like a lot to me. I know some folks do this for autocross etc, and figured less than a 1/4 of a quart is fine for normal aggressive street driving.
I was kind of shocked at how high up the dip stick I had oil afterwards though. Of course the engine is cold, and I'm not sure if oil settles into the stock type 4 cooler etc before starting the engine or not. I'm thinking the full mark on the dipstick must sit really close to the bottom of the tube, and that's why I'm seeing oil so high on the dipstick, is that correct? To those who do or have done similar - can you comment on where approx the oil shows on the dipstick? ps- I know overfilling can cause seal issues and possibly worse, so lmk if this 'less than 1/4 quart' is just too much. I can easily drain off excess, we're still on stands atm. |
