When I open a 914 trans I check all 5 synchro assys by twisting them by hand and checking how far the slider drops down before it starts to compress and then snap. They usually vary from slightly firm to twist to nearly no resistance. The amount of wear in the slider is apparent also by laying the slider on top of the new installed ring and how hard of a push it takes to snap, compress and then lock them together.
Now .....I got some new bands that when installed with the circlip, they are so tight godzilla couldn't turn them....what? Is there defective synchro bands out there? I am going to measure the thickness with a mic today(clips are harder to get on than the old ones. I would really like some feedback on how a new band should feel/move/grip on new dog teeth and used dog teeth. Ty to anyone who could shed some knowledge on this. |
