My frunk hood has always been hard to open (it takes a lot of muscle to pull the handle under the dashboard).

So my first attempt to resolve was to remove the cable from the catch in the frunk and spray lubricant in the plastic tubing and then work the cable back and forth for a few minutes. Then I reattached the cable. It was no better.

Then, I decided to unmount the catch mechanism to inspect (mounted with 3 hex head bolts). When I did that, I noticed a detached/loose spring. I have no idea where this thing goes ... and I'm not sure if it's broken (are the hooks on the ends took short to attach?).

Can someone share a pic of how this should look with the spring in place?

Could this detached spring be the reason my hood is hard to open?

Looking forward to all your thoughts.
