A friend of mine has real talent for photography. He made this beautifull slideshow this winter.

Some more explanations bellow

The plain of Alsace is located in eastern France, on the left side of the Rhine river on it's way through the Rhine ditch, limited to the East by the mountains of the Black Forest (maximum 1 493 m, Feldberg) and to the West by those of the Vosges (maximum 1 424 m, Grand Ballon).

From November to February, by anticyclonic situations, the cold air accumulates in the Rhine ditch and causes the formation of fog or low clouds. The fog disappears more and more later in the day and can finally stays during whole day long.

These meteorological phenomenons are associated with a strong inversion of temperatures between the plain, in the fog, and the heights of the Black Forest and the Vosges, where the sun is shining and the sky is uniformly blue ! Moving 200 or 300 meters upwards is enough to see the sun !
For example, the shots of my slideshow were taken as temperature in Strasbourg was -3°C and those over 500m of altitude were positive (+8°C).
