Dropped off the silver 76 we sold at the shipping company, picked up the wheels from Scott Kline, and went to see the guy who removes broken studs, drills, and taps. He's in a little hole in the wall place at the end of what must be the only commercial zone dirt road left in LA county. While I was there, I had a little tour of CUNNINGHAM RODS. This is a serious company making serious connecting rods! Saw some in progress for a 1905 Rambler and a set for a 6 cylinder blown John Deere tractor pull motor. ($7K EACH!) Also saw a set for a 1000 HP honda drag motor running 80 pounds of boost. They make rods to fit Porsches, VW aircraft and helicopter engines, top fuel dragsters, Harleys, you name it, and they're things of beauty! Jim, the tap guy, explained the defects in the typical rod design for Carrillo and other brands, and how they've fixed the problems.
If I were building a highly stressed motor, this is where I'd get my rods. One major Orange County T4 specialist does, BTW (No, it's NOT SS!). Glad to be back home. Being in LA on a Friday makes it all too clear why I don't wanna live there anymore! The Cap'n
