i haven't seen any thread regarding the $5k engine with feedback from a purchaser so i will start.
my story is a bit convoluted in that once i received the motor, i had so damn many different projects going on, that the motor sat. i finally hauled my car to chris and ed at CFR to do the transplant for me and i picked up my car yesterday. so the first thing i noticed is that there is torque throughout the rpms. it just pulls constantly. it is a much better responding engine than my old stock 2.0. i drove it home about 35 miles and had an absolute blast. it seems to be happiest around 3500-4000 rpms and will go to redline on the stock tach (5500) without a problem and seems to be ready to go higher. i need to get licensing done so i can do a long drive and push it to get the rings seated. i am running dual carbs as supplied by jake for the engine. i have an older header (design prior to chris foley getting the dies and making his upgrades) and dynaflow muffler. the only thing i noted on the way home, and again today, is a backfire on decel. there is no backfire if i rev the engine while at rest and let off the accelerator. i don't want to mess with anything until i have some more miles on the motor and rings are set. though only a few miles in to the motor, i am very happy. i am certain the backfire issue can be resolved (suggestions welcome) and i look forward to a great summer of driving. many thanks to mark and jake for putting the $5k package together and to chris and ed at CFR for wrenching when i didn't have the time to do so. i will update as i get more seat time and the backfire issue resolved..... just wanted to say thanks to those who helped along the way. scott |
