I have a 1974 2.0. It sat for 3 years after having some electrical problems that caused the Alt wiring harness to melt the insulation completely off !! But even with this wire burnt up the car would start and run but the Alt light on the dash stayed on all the time (even if the key was out of the switch). I replaced the Alt and the wiring but as soon as I hooked the battery up it started to short out and and smoke up the at the Alt. What could this be??
