I believe this to be a machined aluminum taco plate. Look to be somewhat stiffer and less prone to leaks.

Anyone making these in the US?

I am actually replacing the seals in my Taco plate tomorrow. The machined item looks pretty good.

One of our very early members did a prototype many moons ago, a lot of interest but it cost too much to make.

Don’t remember his name, but I believe he sold his race car and in no longer in the scene.

BTW when I rebuild an engine I install helicoils for those bolts BTDT.

He sent me the prototype as a gift- its on my Wife's engine now.

It is cost prohibitive to make, especially with todays price of aluminum....

You could make the part much cheaper than strictly machining it by making only the plate, and then tapping a Al rod to weld to that plate. It wouldn't be as pretty, but it would be much cheaper. I think I'm going to try it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Or just send the bastard to China to be whoared out by the thousands!

Then do the buyers an injustice by selling them a leaky POS... As long as it's "pretty" people won't give a damn.

"Less prone to leaks"?

Think about why they leak. Silicone slathered all over the sealing surfaces. Wrong or dead o-ring. Dead or missing paper gasket for the cover over the sender. Wrong or missing crush washers. Wrong, dead, or missing copper sealing ring for the sender. Stripped threads in the case. Improper torque of the bolts. How's the machined plate gonna fix ANY of those things? I have yet to see a bent plate or any other "mechanical" malfunction.

Got bling, though, not that anyone will see it ............... The Cap'n

Bad assumption on my part. Always thought the leak was caused by flex in the plate due to over tightening the screws. The original design obvously should have picked up at least one more fastener in the plate to spread the load across the part better.

Well, what do you know. I just stopped by after a long, long absence. Yes, I sent a prototype of a billet plate to Jake maybe 3 years ago. Great to see it found a home.

BTW, I posted on another thread that I never heard back from Jake. Well, I just did. Cool, man.

Damn Zeke, that was odd!!

Yes, I agree with the Cap'n.. When properly installed, these will not leak. Not even a drop.

Proper installation is the key and that doesn't mean any sealant is needed!!

All I do is coat them with oil, or maybe a tad bit of MolyB grease and they don't leak...

Not nearly as odd as the fact that Milt is doing the metalwork on my 914 right now and I just happen to start this thread...what are the chances???

Did anyone ever make any of these? Seems like a 2 piece unit would have worked. I didn't think of that approach.
