Like most 914-6s with AC, the firewall was hacked away to fit the compressor. It's a shame, because the rest of the car looks pretty nice. Being in Tuscan, I can understand the desire to have AC, but it's a shame that no one has been able to come up with another way to mount the AC compressor on these cars.

Pretty car, but does anybody else get the feeling the Dr has been ripped off along the way.
examples
One: $6400 for a paint job in 1992. That's alot in todays market especially for a SW rust-free car

Two: Brakes, refinish wheels & tires for $4k

Three: In 1996, clutch, partial engine rebuild, carb rebuild for $11,900

Four: Spent another 2,900 for PMOs right after they rebuilt the carbs

Now they found a correct set of carbs that the buyer can get instead of.

The paint has flaws, the dash is cracked, it's got a steering wheel condom - so the leather is probably shot, the aforementioned A/C hack job and they start at $25,000. They are probably looking for at least $40,000

McMark has ... i can't find the pictures right now, but he modded the firewall to fit the compressor and it was a very clean install ...

Hot desert in the East, cool coastal on the West, makes the Columbia river Gorge blow hard for the windsurfers.

Dave Darling over at Pelican told me about a guy in Canada that did a a/c conversion on his original six. I hunted him down and he he sent me some shots of the compressor mount he fabbed out of multiple compressor parts.. Here is one shot. He told me in an email that he did not cut the front floor, he simply unscrewed the two big plugs and custom built a box to house it all.

Its true, I live in the "desert" part. Altohough it hasn't been very desert like its pretty nice. Here in Tri-Cities I know of at least 10 running 914's not to mention the ones I've seen sitting around.

You, my friend, do NOT live in Texas. If you take the top off a 914 here, and try to sit on the black seats, you WILL be at the doctor or hospital with second or third degree burns on your butt and legs. And even if you get past that, you won't be able to drive it because you won't be able to hold on to the controls.

Plus, if you want to drive anywhere, you WILL arrive with your back and legs soaked in sweat.

Here, AC is not a Luxury, it is a necessity.

Heat however, is an luxury... we can live without it.

Didn't Clay Perrine also try to come up with a low mounted compressor run off a serpentine belt?
