When I work on my racecar I put it on jack stands and get up up as high as I can to make it easier to work on. Doing a brake job while sitting on a rolling seat is easier than sitting on the floor.

When I jack up my car I always reach the point that I need to start adding 2x4 or 4x4's between the jack and car to get it up higher. At times the block of wood will move/shift and I have to lower it and start over. Sooooooooo.....

Saturday I'm in the garage and spot this piece of 4 x 4 x 1/4" wall square steel tubing that I've had for years. Why not add that under the jack's removable "cup"?
Weld on a pin to fit in the jack hole and use a hole saw to cut a hole for the cup.
The pin ended up being a Craftman 3/4" socket that I bought at a yard sale which fit perfect in the jack's hole.

It's not some high tech new fuel injection system and it won't make my car any faster but if it saves some time and offers some piece of mind, it's worth it.
Simple is as simpe does. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)

With as light as your car is by now Paul, I figured you would just pick it up and set it on some milk crates!

And you could add the Tangerine Engine/Tranny Lift Plate.

I have learned when you decide to show us something, it's worth a look see.

I was not disappointed, good idea.

Thanks Paul,

Scrap pices of 4 x 4 tubing are pretty common at big metal fab shops. You'll have to try a structural steel fabricator not a sheet metal shop. I'm in the building construction business and every fab shop has a "bone yard" of cut-offs that they have in the corner of the shop. You could ask the shop forman if you can look through the pile. Cost would be a 6-pack.

I have a few more pieces but I'm not looking to get into the business so no group buys please.

That's a good idea. You could probably make 2 or 3 more of those to continually add height if it was needed.

Get a patent! hehe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

If you're yet to buy a floor jack, then consider a high(er) lift model. The few extra $$ are well worth it. My old Hein-Warner can easily lift my car high enough to roll my V8 under the car without any need to add blocks, etc.

Of course if you already have a floor jack similar to what URY914 has, then this is a good solution.

Looks good! Simplicity is beautiful. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Are you worried about bending? I think when I make mine, I'll add a couple pieces of strap running diagonally from corner to corner avoid possible collapse.

Mark,

I don't think it will bend. I'll test it on my pickup but I doubt it.
