a Rattler CAN inflict a non-venomous bite. but usually excrete some small amount even on a defensive bite. I have a crazy uncle who hunts them down for "Rattlesnake Roundups" every year.

the bite from that snake, like my python can still be somewhat dangerous, in that it a) fucking hurts(much more than you would expect), and they have some funky bacteria in their mouths..the bacteria helps digestion begin immediately from what I understand. that bacteria will cause an infection if not thoroughly cleaned

A broom handle will pick it up from the middle ... did it all the time as a kid in Kansas with bullsnakes that liked to eat eggs in the chicken coup.

Grow some huevos there short guy. Maybe the snake will have a snack to tide him over.

I was going to say bullsnake, but appears gopher and bull snakes are similar or just called different names.

Bullsnakes up here get better of 6 feet, harmless and cool to watch, but they can have a bad attitude. (I had to get a 5footer off my boss's driveway, damn thing spun around on me pretty quick)

I dig snakes.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) I was going to say that critter looks familar., very much like my ex-wife, who after WARMING up to the idea that I was racing BEFORE I met her that I was going to continue racing AFTER I married her. She also FINALLY wandered off with a little prodding. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

It was as Todd and a few others said ...Nothing more then a common bull snake ...Ive hunted Rattle snakes in E Washington( Big ones)the more rattles the older the snake ...and the ones you really need to watch are the small ones (young) they are scared and strike at anything and cannot control the amount of venom they inject making them more dangerous. An adult snake knows how much venom they have to use for the size of there pry and seldom drain there reserve and can strike numerous times if need be .....so anywho you did the right thing to ask and not touch and by letting the little fella warm up in the days sun and carry on with hes life getting mice, rats, moles and bugs lots of bugs ........be free little one..............................Rattlers always inject venom if there actually biting there is a mock strike were they just uncoil at you and make you piss down both legs and they dont always rattle before striking (they wanna stay hide`n and if they rattle they just give there position away)if you hear that rattle your probably within 2feet of him .... Kinda like a grizzly dont always growl before eating your ass

Dont tread on me

What were Betty's exact words when she 1st told you? Might be a classic.
All Texas snakes can be seen here.

I can't show you but a 7 foot 6 inch rattler was killed in june or july in Manor, Tx. (east of Austin on 290, thats close to where the republic of tx rally is held) in a backyard. They cut it open and a complete rabbit was inside. My cousin found the info and emailed it to me. You might search: rattlesnake killed in manor. tx.
