Found this while reading up about the recovered VW bus. While I don't think it takes the place of carfax, it seems to be a useful tool.

Well, I tried 3 stolen 914 VIN numbers and all passed with flying colors.

I just tried a VIN from a car at auction with a salvage title.

http://www.klode.net/kws/napplications/dis...;Stockid=929843

it definitely should show something for the fact that it was rolled.

Cars had to be stolen, but not recovered. Were the stolen vins for unrecovered cars? Also, to have the rolled car reported it had to be dealt with by the insurance co.

Carfax is kinda BS as well. If someone totals a car, but then fixes it themselves with out the insurance companies paying out on the car, it will not show up.
