Will,

It all depends on how much you want to spend and what you are looking for.

As for me I can HIGHLY recommend the products by Vintage Seats.

http://www.vintageseats.com/

Mark the owner of Vintage Seats, built my entire car. He made EXACT copies of the Scheel seat used in the GT's. Actually, made them off of the seats out of Glenn Stazak's GT. And he also supplies reproductions of the GT seat tracks.

Great product, dead on the money looks and material wise. Even Armando has got a set for his car.

Plan on having about $2,500 bucks in your pocket if you do. I don't believe that's specifically designed for a 914 either.

You might want to sell that one and use the money to buy a pair of the GTS (etc.) seats and use the left over to get a nice steak dinner (or 10) for you and the Mrs. Or you could use the money to buy another 914.

Check the earlysregistry.org for buyers.

ok

Calling GTS guys in Texas tomorrow. I will talk with them, my "seat" measures 19-20" so should fit into the 19.5" LeMans.

ordering 2 LeMans 5200 leatherette / corduroy set for 5 point (likely run 4 with harness bar)

Try to get them here before season starts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif)

I like the quality of the Scheel seats. My car had them when I bought it. I sold them immediately because they pinched me under the arms... without mercy! I'm simply the wrong shape/size I guess, but at 5' 11" and 195 lbs not unusual. Perhaps they came in various widths, I don't know. The PO was a smaller guy for sure.

Momo Acropolis seats solved the problem. Got a lot for the mint Sheels as well.

Good luck

I wanted to sit in something comfortable.
I went with seats from an 88 Corolla.
I sit about an inch higher than stock but this summer I will try to shave the driver side down a bit.

I have the GTS Lemans seat in my car. I wear a size 32 waist and these seats are snug but comfortable.

Gasp! $2500 is more than I paid for the yellow car. Guess I'm not going there. This seat is not in good condition so I doubt I would get that sort of money for it.

These days I have problems remembering what I had for breakfast but I'm pretty sure the seat was marketted as being for the 914. The shoulders fit into the back pad and the orginal seat rails just bolt right up. No relief for the hand brake though.Attached Image

Steve,

I have to agree with Eric, what you have is a Recaro sport seat for the 911. Not really for the 914 for the exactly the reason you describe, no relief for the handbrake. What you actually have is the driver's seat with the higher bolsters. The passenger/navigator's seat didn't have the exaggerated bolsters.

I don't believe the 914 seat tracks were a direct bolt in? Maybe?

As Eric stated, you could still probably sell it and afford a really nice pair of matching aftermarkets from GTS.

I thought that this seat may have been modified with the seat bottom cut out, but, after doing a little searching came up with someone selling your exact seat in NOS for $2600! And others on the thread claim they had one in their 914.

It looks just like my Driver Recaro & yes the 914 seat tracks bolt right up.

However, the passenger seat is different ( they were hand picked at the Factory for the GT. And since the passenger seat didn't have the pivot hinge yet, a Special seat mount was constructed by Porsche. Seats, Tracks & Mount have Date/Codes

Peter

Right on Pete. That is the seat. It is different than the Early 911S bucket. Front looks the same but the back gives it away. Here is a link to a corresponding pic of the 911S. http://www.pbase.com/9146gt/image/121337214. The 914 version is more narrow in the shoulder to fit into the back pad.

The rails do bolt up directly. That much I can remember (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The 'Modified' bottom is a result of wear on the tilt adjuster.

The hand brake is still usable with this seat but it is tight at the top of the throw. Not good for emergency braking.

Renegade Hybrids will redo your stock seats: sport seats. I have them - they're comfy, fit like stock. I'm pretty tall (esp in torso) and can't do many of the options here, which take away sitting height.

Nice. Beverage of choice when you're in the area.

BTW, they insist on the renegade logo, but it can be in black.

... and Renegade will do the bolsters in full vinyl, which looks more "GT" and I think wears much much better.

The logo, even in black, bugs me a bit. I am thinking of having mine redone locally.

An arm and a leg. Don't get me going on brokerage charges!

Not out of the question to sell particularly if it is going into a GT project. No rush though. I have lot's of work to do before I think about seats.

Although I think these seats are really cool I am still one for the Scheel seats.

This is an education for me, that these were installed in the GT's.
