Call me confused. Ummmm... looks like that's exactly what you're still going to do. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Sell it and buy a Danske twin pipe that's already done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Dear Confused,

Yes, it's close, but I'm taking out a little less metal. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Selling a perfectly usable unit and buying something already made is no fun. Hell, I've even tried to figure out how to make my own suspension bushings. It's a product of racing formula cars for too many years when I had to fabricate almost everything I used.

Some people call it torture, I call it stress relief.

I with you on making things myself. That's what keeps us out of the bars! Mods on these mufflers only work well if one starts with a piece in really good shape.

Cutting on original stuff doesn't bother me unless it's a rare part that should be on an original car. Porsche did it all the time to mod their own stuff for racing. And the privateers did the same thing. These cars are a canvas as far as I'm concerned, for us p-car enthusiasts and "artists" to work with.

My only criterion is that it works better when I'm finish than when I started.

Hope it turned out like you want it.

I finally finished the muffler mods. The details can be found over on the bird board at this link:

ITBs and a dual-in dual-out DANSK muffler will give you that sound.

Of course, you're not just modifying your exhaust for the sound of it, right? You're doing this to get some performance gain? Most anything is an improvement over stock.

The later sounds more like Ferrari than Porsche, but a smaller cavity will definitely sound different. The original muffler resonated out lots of the pulses and kept drone to a minimum. The 2-out sport muffler definitely has a 4000 RPM drone in a 2.7L motor. I don't know about the current 3.6L. I have SuperTrapps now anyway so my 2-in 1-out has been in the attic for the last 11 years.

Nope, purely for the sound of it. If I got any performance gain (besides feeling like it is running smoother), then that is a bonus. A nice running 3.2 in this 914 is plenty of performance for me right now. I'm not tracking it, and it has plenty of performance to get me into trouble faster than most cars.

Let's see - ITB's and a new Dansk? What would you say, maybe $4500 - $6000 worth of equipment? This cost me $24 for an extra spool of welding wire and a can of paint.
