Let's say this car is as described and only has one or two minor issues as any used car does. No major mechanical like broken studs, etc... Is it worth the asking price? If not how much is it worth and why?

Which is the asking price ?? 16,950.00 is a steal.....34,950.00 is into crack smoking territory. IMO that car is a 23,000.00 tops if it is a nice as is described, which it appears to be.

It's being sold by a dealer, so already it's suspect

If it was really a steal, Ferg would own it already

16.9k is a bit steep but its a cleancar.
Get all the paperwork and see what has been done to the motor and trans...its due for a trans syncro or three...motor is due for possibly the top end...dunno that motor specifically, but they all seem to need valve guides when they get old.

The 34,950 price is for a different car. Early 911. They ran two ads together.

I am looking at a 911 also and I got the dealer down 3k just by asking how low he would go.
Its not like that car is gonna run off the lot tomorrow, while its snowing...lol

White is nice, brown interior is not.
That will make that car sell slow..

Personally I dig the dark brown leather on white exterior.

I think $16 is on the top end. Go look at it.

You could find a $13k car and put $3k into it to make it look and drive like that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Check it out. Crawl under it for a while. Drive it. You'll know.

Great cars for the money.

I would suggest that IF you are going to do it, start looking close, start thinking hard about it during the first week of december and if you play it right...you can probably get that car for 13-14k...
I would start a low negotiation on the second week of December with an offer if 11.5 or 12k...worst thing that will happen is they say no.

The closer you are to xmas, the slower their business will become.

90,000 is not "low mileage." I'd want to know if there are any broken headstuds. And has the cam tension upgrade been done.

my thoughts are is the exterior orig?
i like the brown too, but would match a brown car better
i second the thoughts on drive train
and i think 16 is high
i think a 12,5 might be.. absolutely tops
...if that is original paint, and no accidents
heck i bought a 87 off Craig 4 years ago for 12 5

my thought is "cool car..."price"....next!"

83 is a nice year - last year of the SC. Studs were more a problem of the early SC's (78-79). SC pricing has been tanking as of late, I've seen a bunch around $10-12k

SC's will do 300kmiles with a little maintenance

Is the dealer hiding something under the bra?

Hello,

Things to look for when buying an SC.

1) Head Studs
2) Chain Tensioner Upgrade
3) Pop Off Valve
4) Engine Compression Numbers
Maintenance History, get everything available to you. If there is not a lot of information you may want to walk. PPI is a must.
AC will most likely Not work..Dog Breath Cold.

You saw the Auto Trader add and he was willing to sell it for less than the 15,500. then, so what do you think the dealer bought it for?

I know these cars as I own a 80, Weissach Edition, this color combination would be considered a good one, very different.

I would estimate that this car could be bought for less than 14K.

I love my 914 but when I drive the SC it still really amazes me with some of the great "seat of the pants" feel it has.

Just my 2 cents.
