I've got shorty/hugger headers already installed. I need more info on the best way to complete the exhaust system. Any recommendations? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

I had "Thrush" typs mufflers at first, I got way more HP on my V8 when I switched to glass packs. But it got way loud!

These mufflers are the best I've seen. I plan on using the 4" version on my turbo.

I have hugger headers on my 350 and I ran series 40 Flowmaster mufflers upright and in front of the axles. Haven't had any problems with it for four years now. Seems to flow well and sounds great without being too loud. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
This probably won't be the general consensus. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
I would like to hear what those Aero cans sound like though! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)
Good luck! Paul

Here is a pic of my first exhaust. Renegade Hybrids prototype... Matthepcat owns it now with different mufflers...

There are lots of options. The huggers give you more than I.... I used the early corvette headers that end just infront of the axles so all my muffler has to go behind and there's not much room for a crossover which is a good thing to consider. With out the crossover you can get some pretty nasty harmonics which makes it much louder particularly at certain rpms depending on size of pipes.
I used two systems in the past, one was no crossover with thrush turbos and then followed by Ansa double resonator tips. Really nice, but a resonate sound around 2000-2500 RPM that can get pretty tireing puttsing around town. Then I went to a camarro dual outlet and dual inlet can mounted cross wise behind the tailcone and that works pretty well, sounds like a big block boat.
You'll have lots of options.

You can see from these pictures why block hugger headers dont work well. They take a very quick turn from the left header to clear the shifter. IMHO get some s10 or so sbc headers. They are short, put the exhaust right where you need it, and will flow well.

I have magnaflow mufflers and like the sound. I put on resinating tips and it quited it down some. Has a good sound (Might be some sound clips in my sig..). Almost a sporty sound..

I went with the 50 series Flowmasters insted of the 40 series as according to Flowmasters chart, they produce significantly less interior noise.

I was going to ask what the difference was between "shortie" and "hugger" headers. Then I took a closer look at what I have and figured out that they are the shortie headers which sounds like the preferred choice. Will I need to replace my oil filter adapter (made for an oil cooler setup with lines capped off) in order to get correct clearances for over the axle pipes and shifter bar etc... You can make out part of the filter sitting just below the right side header.

So far, I like the idea of using the F body/Camaro muffler setup. Looks like the cross flow part ("H" / "X") is already built-in within the muffler!

You can get a remote oil filter setup and mount it on the firewall like me. Makes it really easy and gives a little added oil cooling.

These are the headers im talking about that work really well.

Hi
I have tried several systems, starting with
1. small turbo mufflers (too restrictive)
2. Flowmaster 40's sound too much like a Carmaro and had a interior drone
3. Ferrari 550 mufflers, sounded good, but way too heavy
4. Porsche GT3 muffler (another ebay find), not too loud, not too heavy and sounds great.

All of these are being fed from a set of long tube headers (early corvette), one of the best upgrades I have done was going from painted to ceramic coated headers, it
lowered the engine compartment temp a bunch.

Bob

Bob, If you can take a video and email it to me I can upload it for you and share it with everyone!

A digital camera that could take the photo above should be able to take a movie. Keep the movie to ~ 30 seconds to a minute and it should be small enough to email just fine (If you have the option, put the video to the smallest format. The audio quality stays the same typically) Keep the exhaust at least 5 feet from the camera, preferably ~ 10 and not in direct line from the exhaust (like 45 deg angle is great.)

Here is kg6dxn exhaust now on my car (now with magnaflow mufflers).

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/img691.imageshack.us-11125-1297732202.1.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/img87.imageshack.us-11125-1297732202.2.jpg)

I also installed drag sound traps at the header/exhaust union. Now no drone!

Nice... is that a dual quad setup?!

It is actually a 94 Corvette Crossfire Injection. It uses two 400 cfm throttle bodies on a crossram manifold. It ran great! I sold it with the engine. Rumor has it, that it will end up in an Automatic 914!

I went with the dual turbos and a crossover pipe...very happy with the results.
