After reading a recent thread about various peoples women folk taking out garage doors, I took pictures of how this guy I work with parks.

You can see in the first picture how far I park from his usual spot.

I always park as far away from anyone as possible.

But no matter how far you go, someone will park right next to you and slam their door into your car ...

I was in New Jersey for business a few weeks ago (Jersey City). We went to dinner at the Chart House and took a route through Hoboken/Weehawkin. I noticed many cars (like 20%) that had this strange mat (or some piece of old carpet) hanging over the rear bumper. Then I realised that 90% of the cars that were parked on the street without this mat had thier bumpers beat to sh!t. Everything from ratty older cars to newer high end stuff. It was like no one cared - if they saw a space even close to the size of their car, they would simply push their way in. These towns need to have the days of the giant chrome bumpers reinstated.

infact, I just googled it. Here is one of the companies that makes them:
http://www.bumperbully.com/

Good for them - but what does it say about folks when you can make a business out of something that is simply the destruction of private property? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

I work in Fells Point Baltimore every day.
It comes with the territory. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I have had 2 sets of euro lenses crushed, front bumper dented multiple times. Front hood backed over twice, once deforming the lip under it. The rear bumper dented multiple times. Keep in mind I have chrome on both ends.

I still drive every day, cause if I was that worried about it, I would probally never drive it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I guess that makes a late 914 with the rubber bumpers and shocks useful... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Don't you hate when you park your 914 off by itself far from everyone else and some douche parks right next to you?

The only damage to my car in 16 years of ownership was from some dipshit who couldn't park. Put his front corner in my drivers side rear wheel well, then pushed it all the way up to the middle of the door.
Good thing someone saw him do it and got his plate #, because he pulled out and left!

Sir Andy has it right.. no matter how much of a precaution you take, no matter how much care, no matter how far removed, inevitably, someone will tune up your car.. free of charge!

This is why I drive ugly cars. Nobody has the heart to hit them and it also keeps me off death row for killing idiots.

I have found that the absolute safest place to park my 914 is between two other 914's... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

yep, - i always park as far away or on an end spot if possible- drives my wife crazy. there are a few places we frequent, have end spots or with a tree n one side, but we have a handicap sticker for my wife-arthitic hip - and i will park in a handicap spot with the van accessible on one side so no one can be within a doors' distance - but one day i come out of the supermarket and some idiot parks in this striped zone- that is a loading zone!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif)

- not a parking spot!!!- we had them towed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

trouble is most dont give a (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif)
