When I'm with Porsch-a guys I call it Porsch-a. When I'm with others its Porsche. I feel "snotty" if I say Porsch-a to them.

You nailed it. My sentiments exactly.

Here in the Ozarks...there aren't many "P" cars...but many of my neighbors all know I have a couple of Porsches...yet I never correct them when they indicate I drive a "Porch"....to do so would be an insult to redneckdom...they seem to accept me because I also drive an rusty 89 F-150...I eat BBQ with them, drink a few beers or sometimes have had the opportunity to try local mountain dew...(higer octane than aviation fuel)...these people are not the wine & cheese crowd...with their little pinky in the air...

I have, on occassion, been asked about the "Porchs".... and have always been polite to them...and called my cars...a Porsche...if I were living up north and someone called my car a "Porch"...I would tell them it is where you sit...and its attached to the front of your house....

Look, I'm even more confused now than I was before. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Can I just keep sayin "Bill SteIn" or "Bill StEEn" can we just pretend that is the guys name or somthin?

If I try to say "B Eel sh(t)ine" with a southern drawl, it is going to get mangled even worse, people will look at me stangely since they are all convinced it is "Bill StEEn".

However, if we are going to continue down this path, let us just go ahead and get a complete dictionary for:

Fuchs
Mahale
Boge
Sachs
Weitec
Teile
Stuck
HeckSpoiler
Felgien

(pardon the spelling, it sucks bad enough with english, I don't know how I'd be expected to get german right.)

Thanks, I know I'm a pain in the rear, but that should keep us busy for a while. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Lets see...

If the word is spelled with an "ei" in it..that part is pronounced like a hard "I" like in mine, kind, mind....etc.

The ch sounds kinda like you are gonna spit an you are getting it out....but also kinda like a rolled r...

hard to explain..

Just remember the German way of pronouncing ei is backwards to the english way....

ie = mean, lean keen
ei = mine kind

Also most of the vowels are pronounced in their strong or hard sense...
Bil stein is like Andy said beeel schtine
The s is a funny one...sound different depending upon where it is in the word...

And fuch is pronounced foooch it hard to explain the last part...but very gutteral...

Version #5 - when I was visiting the factory in Stuttgart the guys showing me around both said : POR - SHE

I thought it was very strange, but then when I asked the family friend we were staying with (in Germany) she said it that way also...I have heard from others that it could be the accent from the region of Germany they were from. Either way, to me that pronunciation sounded a lot more like a small dog than a sports car...go figure...

Crap - I thought it was a 4 Weber setup on a V8 - oh well, old and blind I guess. Due to the distortion, I thought it might be the pods from some movie I don't remember. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Ok.. Back to the Fuchs issue.

I could care less about Porsche... I say it "Por-sha"... if I hear someone say "Hey dude... nice Porsh"... I correct them, cause they sound like a dick---LMFAO

Anywhoo.. I just dated a german girl... she was an idiot, but her last name was Fuchs. It was pronounced "Fyuks".

Thats always the way I pronounced the wheel as well.... is that correct? Or is it "Fooks"??

Kinda like the difference between coupon. Is it "coopon", or "cyupon"??

Here is a write which also includes sound clips of various German brand names. I can't say it they are correct but I am assuming they are.

Oh wait a sec..... I wasn't implying that she was an idiot BECAUSE she was german.. not at all.

She was about as interesting to talk to as a bag of hammers.... but that had nothing to do with her ethnic background.

Hey.. it only took me 2 weeks to figure it out.... she's gone now.. no worries (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
