Keep right except to pass. I do my best to be out of their way. I do not slow pull over to slow down. I wait until there is enough space that I can move over. If they are real a$$holes I accidentally swerve to the left to kick up some road debris (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bootyshake.gif) . Then I move over.
Unless they are real jerks I just let them pass. It pisses me off when someone is going slow than I want to & won't move over. It doesn't really matter what the speed is. Unless it is a Semi Truck with a full load. That really pisses me off (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) |

So I am the only one who believes I have the right to finish passing slower traffic before I get out of the way? Seriously? |

Move over when possible and let them by. I'm always happy to have a rabbit running out front to keep the radar boys busy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Mike (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Do it all the time. I respect those who want to go fast, I just wish others would move over when I, I, I feel the need for speed. Owning a 911 as well, people love to ride my ass. This never happens in the 914. So I always move over, pull off the road, or what ever it takes to get the idjot in front of me so they can harras or rear-end some one else. Speaking of the 911, one time a dark gray late model charger was riding up my ass, just trying to provoke me to do something stupid. I figured out who it was immediately, the dark tinted windows are a give a way. So I changed lanes after doing all the right stuff and watched him race on until he pulled over some unsuspecting slob. |

It sounds like I-5 between LA & SF where it's down to 2 lanes each way N & S - no matter how fast you cruz there, there always seems to be someone wanting to blast faster & willing to use poor driving to force their way! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
Life is too short, so when an opportunity presents itself, pull over, then use the them as a "rabbit" to flush out the cops/CHP in front of you - that is assuming you want to try to keep up & shadow them. That was an old trick my Mom, Aunt & their Dad/my Grandfather taught me waaaay back in the 50's! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Otherwise simple sign language as they blast by can be employed if you're so inclined! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Keep my same speed, ignore him, and move over when there's a big break in the right lane.
That happens to me a lot. I find most drivers have an inherent inability to maintain a steady speed (by that I mean maintaining within 5 mph). Some vary as much as 20 mph, as in between 50 and 70 on a road that's gotta speed limit of 60. I guess they play the law of averages. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

Here's the one I don't get. People in the fast lane who drive 1/4 mph faster than the traffic in the slow lane. Especially when passing a tractor trailer. My (admittedly limited) motorcycle experience tells me to pass large trucks as quickly as possible.
Shit, or get off the damned pot already. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif) |

Lots of good answers here, It seems as though any enthusiast be it sports car, motorcycles or other.. all share at least an understanding of the left lane being the passing lane. Note that I said enthusiast to imply someone who actually cares about their ride. I automatically assume that a ricer, squid or commuter car whom exhibit limited non functional knowledge of these will do dumb things.

Woohoo I broke 500 posts.
How often do people even notice if say you're approaching someone ahead of you and flick your highbeams or fogs to say "hey guy, gettin ready to pass....move over"..as a warning or courtesy BEFORE you get within a few seconds of them. |

Ok, my blood pressure is already high this morning just from the commute into work. Drivers in the Denver metro area SUCK! They don't know/understand the rules of the road around here. Going 55 in a 65 in the left lane???!!!! Seriously, get the fuck outta of the way already. They like to hang out in the left lane just for the hell of it. WTF is that all about?
Ok, rant over. |

In Florida, it's now illegal to Flash your Lights

Does the light flashing to signal a semi that it is clear also fall under illegal?

I try not to be in the left lane (AKA Showoff Lane) unless I am passing someone. If someone comes up behind me wanting to go faster, I will get out of the way and let them.
Beware.. the city of Davis, California has introduced a "Pace Car" Program. The citizens are given stickers that let them run rolling road blocks to prevent people from speeding. City of Davis Pace Car Program And they aren't the only ones. Just google "citizen pace car" or "pace car program" and you will see pages of hits on cities and towns that do this. I wonder what the penalty is for passing one of these "pace cars"? This is a link to a page that lists some of the Pace Car cities. |

In San Jose and the SF peninsula, we have people that follow the below speed limit program....but they don't know they are part of said club.
This is the one reason I like LA....get moving or get run over. |

Driving on the highway is sort of a team sport. Driving fast should never mean pushing someone hard. I often give a wave in hopes that the car behind will understand that I'm looking for a place to gracefully move over at a reasonable speed.
Dad always said if you drive fast, it should never interupt the cars that want to operate at legal speeds. Never diving in behind a car and hitting your brakes. |
