I purchased an old set of gauges from a member and had plans to do the LED upgrade. Found out that Mark (Newvintageusa) was unable to do the work, they are swamped with other stuff. I talked to Al Garcia, (awesome Guy) and he is fighting cancer on a day by day basis, and he was not able to do the job in any quick timeframe. (prayers for ya Al) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I jumped onto the world wide web and found a company that does LED kits on Ebay. They have never actually done any work on these types of gauges before, but I figured Hey, i have another set if they mess them up. What the Heck, Why Not.

A week later (today actually) the guy calls and said the gauges are done. He took everything apart cleaned them and painted the needles with a ultraviolet paint. The needles actually glow (how cool is that) and the L E D strips are unbelieveable. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif)

Did he put red led's in the reline area or is that just from the gauges themselves?

do the new led's dim with the existing dimmer? i like to turn mine down depending on how much light's outside.

so many questions, can you tell our interest is piqued?!

and please, do tell (the vendor's name)! i sense the makings of a group buy!

The guys name is Zach,

http://whitegauges.net/

They do not dim unless you get an LED Dimmer, I am sure they sell it. I picked a random company and found a really cool connection. He also said that a group buy would be no problem.

I paid a total of $145.00 with priority UPS Shipping. I realize that is a lot to some people considering that Mark does them at 35 bucks ea and Al does them for 30 bucks each, but they are not able to do the work quick.

These guys did it within a week and painted them, I think it was worth every dollar spent. If you want a group buy he said to let him know.

Looks like he did put red on that side. I did not ask him too, I just said "Make them look Cool"

totally a cool company.

I think it would be sweet if someone put in some kind of sensor on the end of the needle so that as the tach swept past the digits, the LED's would light up in succession around the gauge! It would be awesome at night.

Mark and Al's work looked very good last time I checked the relevant threads. Looks like WhiteGauges did a general refresh - don't have the threads handy, but is that a distinction from Mark and Al's work, or did they repaint etc as well? Either way, always good to find new shops/vendors.

I bought EL wire to try and use when I build a triple gauge (waiting for John). Sorry, will add link to the thread after I get home. If I can't get that to work, LEDs are an option...

Did they freshen up the gauge housing plate too? Or did you do that yourself? Or did you have it powder coated somewhere? This is my "it's snowing and I"m not going to drive my 914" project.

They painted the housing, without asking. They told me if it was not perfect, it would not ship.

I could not be any happier.
