I bought the POR kit and started the process of restoring my fuel tank today. I got about 3 seconds into the process of brushing what I thought was surface rust from the outside of the tank when I started seeing the pin holes all along the area where the bottom part of the tank rests on the contours of the unibody. Probably because of the pad and all of the leaves that were jammed down in there.
I really have no appetite for cutting and welding on used fuel tanks in my garage. I don't really have the skills either. I can try to find a radiator shop to fix it, but won't they just braze something like this? Is that really an acceptable repair? I thought I should ask if anyone out there sells new tanks before heading down that path of trying to repair the pin holes. I'd like to keep as many of these parts out of the landfill as possible, but I don't want to make this harder than it needs to be either. TIA |

I took my gas tank to Renu Renu
They did a wonderful job on my 914, Studebaker and MGA. Plus it comes with a life time warranty. Average cost is around 250.00 and the tank condition doesn't matter. My MGA had blown out sides due to rust, it came back looking brand new. |
