New to the forum, just wanted to say Hi

I'm in the market for a 914 and this site has been helpful to get me up to speed. I already have 2 older cars (67 firebird vert & 80 firebird formula turbo) but want somthing different.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the welcomes!

Looking for a reliable, solid driver. Doesn't need to be perfect, but prefer stock. Something within driving distance to go check out personally is preferred.

There is one for sale on Ebay about 200 miles from you. Has carbs and probably tail shifter but looks like a good teener in pictures.

Lots of new parts.

Don't know what the parade pictures are about.

Good luck in your search.

So is rust the main thing to look for? My birds were all solid even the vert as they were texas cars.

Anyone here from DFW area? I could sure use some help with my search.

Yea.. I am in Hurst, just west of DFW airport.

Come up to Bedford on Saturday. There is a swap meet at Zims Autotechnic. Plus, They have a 914-6 GT in the shop that is for sale. It's done, just drive it home.

Look for a 914 with a 2L engine. The 1.7/1.8L engines are ok but anemic power. Go for the gusto of a 2L.

I disagree--look for a 914 that has as little rust as possible. (Don't believe claims of "no rust"--these cars rusted on the boat coming over from Germany!) The exact engine and such that is installed is of very secondary importance. I'd take a clean 1.8 over a rusty 2.0 any day.

Take it from "The Rusty Mountain Boys" in the South, Dave is absolutely correct.

You can always strap a rocket or 6 to the ass after the check clears...

Have you seen BillH1963's thread under ScottyB's skilled hands??

To quote BillH, or a close paraphrase (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) , "...another example of a rust free 914..."

Dve,

That's what I was thinking too in regards to rust (see my post above). I'm trying to learn as much as I can and my gut tells me rust free is a relative term in relation to 914's. In the chance I can't inspect one myself are there trusted sources that inspect prior to purchase. There's no way I'd buy a car site unseen.

Thanks!
