I need to get some oil. Locally, I can purchase Brad Penn oil and Amsoil with zinc (see link at end of post) I have a 2256 4cyl. They are both about the same price and they both come in the same viscosity. Which would you get?

Brad Penn I am totally pleased with the sound reduction and less leaks ( it's a 914 it leaks) less oil consumption. I recommend it without reservation. I live in the sf Bay Area so I don't see extreme temperatures.

Regards

James.

Been using Brad Penn for many years on the 914's and when we had the 993... 993 had 200k miles on it and ran like a champ when sold, so I have to say it worked fine for me.

Also look into Cam2 Blue Blood oil. Same price as Brad Penn (usually) and basically the same stuff...same amount of zinc and all.

Mark - which specific Delo 400 are you using? I've been reading about that oil over on Pelican lately and that some folks are having good results with it in their engines.
I've been using Brad Penn 20w50 here.....

I haven't tried it yet...I was just being a shit disturber. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I think I'll try it next time as it is suppose to be better than Rotilla, but cheaper than BP.
Like Rottilla it's a diesel truck oil, I don't know what grades it's in, I thought like Rotilla and Swepco it was 15W/40.

Yeah, looks like Delo 400 LE is 15w40.....but I've got a local gas and oil supplier near me that carries
Brad Penn. I was able to buy a case of 20w50 for about the same price as the Delo or Rotella oils....
Who knows what it's gonna cost next time though so it's nice to have a couple of alternatives to try.

Those using diesel oil should take a look at the zinc and phosphorus levels. The new diesels have new smog equipment on them, and they have been pulling all of the good stuff out of their oils too.

As I understand it these days, specialty oils are the only real good answer anymore.

I've been told that's what has happened with my old trusty rotilla but Delo 400 is suppose to still have the good stuff in it.

Adding fuel to the fire Henry Schmitt at Supertec has stated that he sees a lot of wear on engines using Brad Penn so he uses the Delo 400 on his high end /6 builds.

I still use Rotilla in a lot of engines and it it is still the best "cheap" oil.
