Just want to make sure this is possible. I have a 1.7 case that I want to make into a 2.0 ish engine. I'm hoping with 2.0 heads, cam, cranks etc... it will be plug and run into a stock 1974 2.0 FI. Any potential problems with a 1.7 case?

You will have to open up the case registers for the two litre cylinders.

The head registers need to be opened up....if you are going to use 1.7 heads.

Good luck finding good 2.0 heads.

1.7--1.8---2.0 cases--they're all the same and interchangable. No need to cut anything. I've built 2.0 engines out of 1.7 cases more then once. I'm surprised that so many people think the 2.0 case is something special. Only the serial # stamp makes it different.

Talk to Len Hoffman about getting the best heads.....
you can find used 2.0L heads but for the money I've seen good used, rebuilt ones
going for lately, why gamble. For a little more $$ you can get new ones that are
better and will last a lot longer!

Jake has added to many threads, and all cases have the same registers for the cylinders.

The 1.7 cylinders have the thickest walls.

If you were to use the 1.7 heads with the 2.0's cylinders, the registers in the heads would have to be opened up. If you're going with 2.0 heads, the 2.0 cylinders will fit just fine.

I'll give you 100 bucks if you can find a T4 case that doesn't have the same register size as a 1.8 or 2.0.

You won't find it, not even a magnesium version.

Looks like I have been thoroughly chastised for my stupidity. Now I will never forget again that all cases are the same. Hey, didn't all you guys know that? I will go write it 100 times on the blackboard.

But wait.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif) the internet also said that using 2.0 rods in a 1.7 case requires some clearance.... Didn't I read that ? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)
