Drove it to car show in Sky Valley, Georgia. Parked next to me was an Amphicar that look like it came off the showroom floor.

Still working on the gas tank. Looks like I'm down to what's called rust stain.
Did the rinse with Por15 Degreaser. Didn't do too much. But there wasn't much in there. Then I went and bought 2 gallons of apple cider vinegar. Still have the stains. Can I even get the stains out without taking it to a radiator shop? Next will be the Por15 Metal Prep unless someone has a better idea ............. I'd like to get it down to bare metal. Then coat it with Por15 gas tank sealer. |

I just dropped my extra tank off at a local radiator shop. $45 to clean and coat the tank. What a deal.
Also drove her in the mountains. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/s11.postimg.org-11125-1413740815.1.jpg) |

i looked at it, planned on driving to work but the battery was dead (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)
so i am considering an optima - What's the best battery for our cars? my old one is a autozone special lasted only 3 years- probably due to it not having a quick disconnect and getting run down when it wasnt getting driven very often. still waiting for new CHT to arrive ase well . pjw |

Just had to replace it w/ another right before Okteenerfest, due to age & I think sitting in a very cold garage last winter. Going to take my new one out this winter & keep it inside the house on a trickle charger. I use the Optima 34R, (R means the terminals are reversed compared to normal batteries),however it has to be modified slightly to fit- have to shave the tabs/ears off of the base to fit in the tray properly. It's not cheap, but I did find one on line for $168 shipped. Another brand of dry cell to consider is an Odyssey, but I'm not sure what model to look for. Whatever you get just make sure it's a dry cell, not an ordinary lead/acid wet cell- many a hell hole have been formed due to water mixing w/ the acid & flowing down into the longs. I just dropped my extra tank off at a local radiator shop. $45 to clean and coat the tank. What a deal. I'll do some looking around. Not too many left here in PDX. (EPA/DEQ) That didn't go real well. Stopped at Mac's Radiator in Hillsboro. They don't do the work there. They send it to one of their other shops. Then come to find out they don't dip. They split them open, sand blast and reweld. NOT. |

So back to DIY. Decided to go the Muriatic acid route.
So we built some plates to seal it up. The duct tape wasn't working to well. Not real interested in getting acid in my eye. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) ![]() Went to Ace and got some plugs to put in the pipe holes. You need two 6mm washers to shim the nut high enough so you get a tight fit. ![]() Mark, here's the blower motor seal I'm sending you on Thursday. ![]() |

Bought a gallon of Muriatic acid at Home Depot. $8. Mixed it 1:1. Worked really well.
Only thing I didn't like. Any area that I let air dry with the solution in the tank stained brown. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Next time I'll use the mixed 2 gallons to etch off the solids. Then I'll add 3 more gallons of acid. Then top off with enough water get the entire tank wet all at one time. Then drain it all at once. I'm thinking that will leave entire tank raw and ready to seal. Hair dryer on medium drys out the tank real well. I'm going to seal with POR15 fuel tank sealer on Thursday. ![]() The acid did open up one more small pin hole (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) |

Back again ................ I'm too picky. I bought another gallon of acid. Decided to soak and rinse the tank one more time. But this time I kept flipping it to keep all sides wet.
Turned out perfect ................ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) It's outside with the hair dryer blowing away at warm temp. Today's Completion List : 1. Re installed center console after reworking the wiring, light bulbs and front plate. (Hint, remove and replace from the passenger side) 2. Installed my new LED taillights from Spoke. Way cool ............impressed ![]() 3. Then laid out the rear brake rebuild. Back from plating at PMB ![]() 4. Installed one of my new Mainely dipstick oil temp gauge. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) 5. Sent Mark (914Rubber) a foam seal for the front fresh air blower for a pattern. |

Found out that my project -6 is all numbers matching!
I didn't bother checking the engine before today as the PO sold loads of the other genuine -6 stuff off the car and I assumed that there was no way it wouldn't have it's matching engine Organised delivery next week of my NOS pair of inner rockers that have been stuck in Customs Updated the database with the engine number Oh and ordered $4700 worth of bits from Germany (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Happy, but poor ![]() |
