I'm hoping to plasti dip my car to make it all one color after my off at SOW while I save up for paint. Does anyone in SoCal have experience with this. It seems dipyourcar.com can't sell their kits here, so I'm stuck buying the stuff off CraigsList which I can only imagine is picked up across state lines somewhere. For example:

I saw some SUV advertising that service in Temecula, CA. Pretty sure he was "area local".

It's gonna happen. My car looks like a frankenstein with my repair panels on it. How could it be worse aesthetically? A year or so down the line she'll get the paint job she deserves.

Turns out you can order the spray cans... I have 8 cans of Koi Orange with the "glossifier" coming. I also got the better spray tips and the prep spray. There is a 25% sale right now!

Do it. Just make sure you get a pretty nice paint gun. Make sure its not too cold or wet outside when you paint, and do all your prep work correctly.

I would suggest masking off windows to make clean up faster...as well as wheels, tires, exhaust, and your engine lid grill area.

If you can pull the hood and trunk lids and paint them in the vertical position, it comes out nicer.

Nice! Really thought about doing my quarters on my roller with them. Added the GT flares & they are primer grey. Look a little out of place with my orange car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I would not reccomend the spray cans for anything larger than wheels, you will get stripping. It is fairly cheap to get into I did my car for under $200 shipped(without the gun)

Don't do it. That crap gets into every crevice and when you want it off you will never get it all.

Use a wrap...vinyl wrap...peels off easily. Make it all carbon fiber!

I think that for the cost you can't do vinyl, but you are right. I have looked at several cars that had been detailed and still had bits of "dip" in crevices too small to clean effectively, but large enough to see. If you are stripping for a proper repaint later, it might be ok.

I did mine for the winter.
I had a hard time spraying it on, with out it getting like silly string?
Well, not that bad but it seemed to cure at the gun tip. It became like little rubber feathers floating in the air as you spray they land in the painted area.
I went to a bigger gun tip. It helped but still could not do a clean job.
It is only a body condom (ribbed with bumps) for the winter rain.
For that, it is working well.
You will need a gallon. I used red with a bag of metallic and some black tent.

Get the dipyourcar.com gun that they sell. It makes all the difference and is worth every penny once you start spraying. It's not too much money either. It has adapted nozzle and everything to spray the dip repeatedly. The stuff is a little thicker then paint, so it can clog and gum up regular sprayers easily.

Also, do at least 4 or 5 coats for the first tim, this will help to peel it off down the road if you so choose, and makes it easier to pull the trim and window sections too.

My brother has dipped his FX35 and his buddies cars, he changes the color every 4 to 6 months. It turned out good, most people think it's a wrap. Just remember to to the same processes and lay it down the same as you would paint, nice long even overlapped passes.

Kinda stuck there... They don't sell gallons in CA legally. I've ordered the special nozzle for the spray cans to give me the best possibility of a passable result.
