mmm... India Red. That's one of my favourite 911 colours. I forgot about that. Great red! A 914 would look good in that.

Wondering why LE's never had printed sales literature handouts, but 914-S did???
Any record of a dealer LE brochure handouts??

- The '73 2.0L was a new model, with a new more powerful engine and loads of new technology, accessories, upgrades, new color choices and more.

- The LE cars were standard '74 mid-production 914s with a fancy paintjob, a few readily available options thrown in and a "special" front valance.

See the difference?
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

.... and ....

- The `73 914-2.0 "914S" were likewise standard `73 early to mid production 914-2.0s - just like the 74 LEs above - with the Appearance Group & Performance Group of options likewise thrown in at the base 914-2.0 introductory price.

See the sameness??

But then the "914S" was listed indeed in all official Porsche+Audi 914 USA & Canadian sales literature & dealer brochures - & copyrighted by Porsche as well if you look at them - as used "officially" from Summer 1972 - +/- March 1973,

.... but AFAIK the 914 LE never was denoted separately in any P+A 914 sales literature in the USA, but I'll defer to the LE expert - Jeff on that one - as Tom B asked above.

Andy - you're trying to redefine the `73 "914S" "trim level designation" as any 73 914-2.0 - whereas Porsche+Audi defined it as only those `73 MY 914-2.0 which included both the AG & PG options at "N/C" - or no additional cost over the base 914-2.0 cost - or "included in the base price" as a special introductory offer, one could say.

That is both reflected in the "914S" magazine ad copy, and on the window sticker below from Jeff's website - & note that the model number is one of the 2 applicable USA-49 state & Calif. model numbers which I'd listed above.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/bowlsby.net-10181-1422509163.1.jpg)

And because they were N/C items on the window sticker - PCNA will NOT include them on your COA - & they fall between the cracks as it were - absent something like a "914S - trim level designation" or "model number with list of included options" or something similar to certify that the AG+PG options were indeed included on the particular car.

Do you & the others not see a problem with this? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Why is it okay for Porsche to claim ignorance on this?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Well Tom, that's cuz they let you pick any color you wanted for the "914S" - not just the Bahia Red in the ad, nor limited to just 2 crazy paint-n-stripe paint schemes of the 74 LE's!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif)

So now in addition to being personally insulting to SirAndy and myself you have decided to pick on the LE cars? And to use a smiley which indicates that you are intentionally stirring the pot? Tom you are the pot. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Who has posted on this thread and are they stirring the pot?

To be clear, it doesn't matter how old a person is; knowledge can always be faked by copying and pasting from the internet to just about any thread you want.

Maybe it is from not seeing it much, but 914S does not have the same ring or excitement as seeing or hearing 911S

So....... my 914 is getting a 3.0 somewhat close to a RS spec engine...
is it OK then to badge it as a 914RS?

:whistle:562297798513

I want one too.

Since my car' s blue, should it be a 914 RBS?

Well then... I have RSR pistons and it's now a six...So I feel it's perfectly fine to call it a 914/6RSR

I needs stickers!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Cool! You should do the 'S' in bold. 914-6 RSR

That way it will tie in more to an authentic 914-S.

Wow, how did I miss this thread?
How did I miss purchasing a 914 back in the 70's?
Oh yea, I bought a 1971 Z28 Cameeroo for less money. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

Except, the 914S never existed.
It was just a marketing gimmick from PCNA to hype the new '73 2.0L model.

There was no special 914S with special features.

The "S" designation only ever existed on paper. You're chasing a letter that only existed in print ...

I was simply referring to new 914 colors for the '73 model year that weren't available before that year.

Ya....but in the US it's a Zee28 and in Canada it's a Zed28 and since your Camero was built in Canada there is no such thing as a factory Camero Zee28.

You were another marketing sucker...

This discussion reminds me of the ski industry back in the 80’s. In order to increase sales to a certain demographic that craved being “special”, ski manufacturers would take existing mid-level skis and add “racing” to the top sheet graphic. It definitely increased sales. As a shop rat, I clearly remember hearing subsequent conversations/arguments when a ski was brought in for service or a warranty issue.

Customer: “That ski is a racing ski. It’s a special edition – it said so in the in catalog – see, it says racing on it. Make sure you put a race tune on it like it came from the factory”

Shop Rat: “Actually no. That ski is exactly the same as the pink flowered one we sold to your wife and 12 year old daughter two years ago. I’ll run it over the belt and slap some (cheap) wax on it. Sorry about your ego.”

**UPDATED**

Shop Rat: “Is that your 914 – I have always loved those cars”

Customer: “Don’t get too close, it’s an S. it’s a factory special edition….”

No but the did make a Z-28 RS. . . .
I bought one when I survived my Army days and came back stateside. .Brand new 1968 . another of the cars I should have kept but when gas went from 33 cents to 66 cents overnight and we could only get 5 gallons every other day I dumped that hog for a whopping $1800. . and got my 1st 914. . . .
