I got into aircooled cars because of my dad, and he got into them because he used his Vietnam combat pay to buy a VW.

Coincidentally, my mom used her Vietnam combat pay to buy a Corvair. So I guess they both used their deployment pay to buy aircooled cars 5ish years before they met.

Their stories and experiences make my Army time look like the minor leagues.

Thanks for your service, 71-73 airforce vietnam vet. F111, and f4, mechanic, and crew chief. Had a wonderful free steak at Texas roadhouse, in Prescott for Veterans day... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif)

Here's a salute to all my fellow vets that answered the call however and whenever. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif)

As a retired Navy sailor, I spent a considerable bit of time razzing fellow Marines about, well,. . . being Marines. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) But I have to say that from nearly day one, I had a deep respect for those "Leather-necks". I will never forget traveling alone from Seattle to Atsugi, Japan by plane, and bus. My first real time away from home in a foreign country. In TOTAL culture shock. Not knowing a sole. Feeling 100% lost. When I finally got to the gate, a Marine gate guard appeared to check my I.D. I cannot hat Marine tell you the feeling of relief I felt simply by seeing the that U.S. Marine. I knew from then on, everything was going to be O.K. And it was. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif)

Like I said; nothin' but respect to the Leather-necks!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif)

Curt, may have been a different base in Thailand, but did you ever run across this guy (Robin Olds) when you were working with "Thuds?" Read his biography a couple of years ago. What a stud.

Yes, thanks for everyone's service (yes, including the Navy guys (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) ).

Col. Robin Olds biography was on the Military channel, and he was an amazing strategist, combat pilot and Mig ace.
His squadron of F4 Phantoms were all Top Gun. Military channel may have this DVD available, it's a good flick !
