I currently have two old chests, one without ball bearings on the drawers, and it is getting harder and harder to use everyday.

I saw this at Home Depot and seems like a good deal...?

That top/bottom cabinet is a good deal. I have one. Read the reviews. Might not do better for the price for a home workshop.

Look at Costco and Sams Club. Most of the stuff is stainless steel.

My brother has a smaller version of the bottom box. It has been a good box for a long time. Based on the specs and price I doubt you could go wrong. I have the 44" GeneralPro HF job and it has been great. I think this one is a little less expensive and rated for more weight.

I use a black Snap-on "Classic 78". Bought it used off CL for approx 1/4 the new price in perfect condition. Fantastic box with tons of room. Ball bearings drawers with a simple drawer lock system that works perfectly. Big but not too big that you can't move it around the garage. I've used it daily for 6 years with not one single issue. Probably over-kill for a home/hobbyist, but a great box none the less.

I've had a Craftsman bottom unit w/o ball bearings for 22 years - on it's last legs as the drawer slides are failing. Intermediate (about 20 yrs) and top box (about 6 years) are Crafstman w/bearings, holding up fine.

Bought this on Black Friday based on friends recommendations.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-46-in-9-D..._-203859406-_-N

Sale price of $200, nice box, should have bought another one.

But as a whole, Husky boxes seem to be a lot of box for the money.

I just bought one of these to replace a perfectly good craftsman box....DUH. Its a great box and a great price. I have convinced the wife that it will be a positive cash deal once I sell the other box!

On that note... I am selling a Craftsman Pro set that is much more awesome than this H.D. thing! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

Just a quick question- have you pulled the drawers and cleaned the slides? I used my Snap On and Mac boxes for 25 yrs professionally and an occasional maintenance routine kept them in good workable shape and I never bought another one (I had six of them for everything). Just a thought...

For Home Depot, the Mikwaukee box currently on sale is a bit nicer than the husky.

The higher end Harbiir Freight boxes are really nice and hard to beat the price. I am very happy with mine.

I'm sticking with my 50 year old silver and red Craftsman tool chest as it's served me well and seems period correct for my cars.

A wealthy friend of mine has large Snap-On toolboxes that are painted to match each of his three vintage Corvettes at his Garagemahal. Must be nice!

Cabinet - 52 in. W x 18.2 in. D x 41.3 in. H and weighs 229 lbs.

My 44in General Tools box from Horrible Freight weighs 258lbs and is 8in shorter in length and is the same depth. That should tell you something right there. Buy tool boxes based on weight when comparing similar boxes.

I have three HF boxes, one Waterloo (Crapsman ball bearing), three Crapsman friction slide boxes, one Crapsman ball bearing, and one Snap On Taco Wagon. The HF is probably the nicest for the money. I would buy another one or even replace all of these with a big 72in if the drawer layout were better. The Taco Wagon is pretty nice but its a weird layout and the box was used hard when I bought it.

Interesting, thanks for all the feedback.

Comparing HF 44" and HD Husky 46":

http://www.harborfreight.com/tool-storage/...inet-68784.html

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-46-in-9-D...0946B/204507749

The HF chest is 2" shorter, but is rated to carry 1,600 pounds more (2,600 vs 1,000) and weighs 100 pounds more (270 vs 170). Strange world we live in when HF might be higher quality! (but it is also $100 more)

I would skip that one if you actually intend to put any weight inside and open the drawers. It uses crappy friction slides. I realize this one is more money, but its substantially better.

My buddy has this wider 44" HF box and it's awesome. He's had it for years (almost daily use) and it still works like new. The funny thing is that it's full of SK, Snap-On, and older Craftsman tools. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Yep, I have been using my 44in HF box for the last 10 years. I use it daily and have no issues, would buy it again without a doubt. I hate the finish but the box itself is awesome. I even stand on the drawers from time to time and they still have no problems.

I like the 44 much better than the tall stack of boxes. Since I am four feet tall I can see in the top drawer, plus it gives me a nice workbench surface. The stacks aren't as useful to me.

Brett, your 4ft tall? What do you do for the pedals and seating for a 914 or does the factory stuff work for you?
