Interesting, thanks for all the feedback.

Comparing HF 44" and HD Husky 46":

The HF chest is 2" shorter, but is rated to carry 1,600 pounds more (2,600 vs 1,000) and weighs 100 pounds more (270 vs 170). Strange world we live in when HF might be higher quality! (but it is also $100 more)

Take account of your tools to see how you might use the HD stack. Seems to me it has too many skinny drawers. It'll be hard to find anything to put there and your bigger tools will get stranded. As for the chests, the top surface is too small to be of much use and you don't want to be bending over to get commonly used tools. A stack with some deeper drawers up high will put common tools in easy view w/o bending.

If you need a bench, I like the Sears ones. I got a 8 ft with butcher block top. You assemble. All the parts and screw holes lined up perfectly. Liked it so much I got another. Compared with a HF parts cleaner that I could barely get together due to poor design and misalignment. In addition to which it didn't work the first time I plugged it in.

Nothing depreciates faster than a Tool Box.

I have bought both of my Snap-On Boxes off of Craig's List

Before you buy have you tried removing the drawers & cleaning/oiling the slides? A lot of times they get gummed up & don't work well.

I would never buy a new box. They are always up for sale on Craigslist for a fraction of the cost.

Most good boxes need weight in the drawers to slide properly

Brett, your 4ft tall? What do you do for the pedals and seating for a 914 or does the factory stuff work for you?

Screwed 4x4ws to the factory pedals? LOL (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif)

I am not really four feet tall. I'm normal height, just hate trying to see in the top drawers on those big stacker type tool boxes.

However, am I the only one that hates the offset pedals in their 914? Its annoying to go back and forth from a modern car to the 914.

Not me. But a 914 was my first car so it feels like home. Sometimes I hide from my family and sit in my car. Yes, I'm strange.

Very valid points and great advise!! On my Snap-on "Classic 78" I have one large 4.5" deep top drawer that houses all my commonly used tools like sockets, wrenches breaker bars etc. This is the drawer that I do 90% of my work out of. My box has 4 total drawers that are 2" tall and IMHO that's too many. To get a tape measure inside I have to remove the belt clip(!) The really useful drawers are 4"+. You can use those for anything.

I would skip that one if you actually intend to put any weight inside and open the drawers. It uses crappy friction slides. I realize this one is more money, but its substantially better.

+1. Now $319 on line at Harbor Freight.

Keep in mind this is a 2 piece item that can be split, I plan on using the top 8 drawer cabinet inside my house (basement bench) and the lower 8 drawer roller in my garage.
