Hi,

Boston criagslist shows the following car. As someone new to 914s can someone explain?

https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/5696386785.html

Did the factory actually do this?

Thanks
Steve

The car listed here is nothing more than a 914 that has had flares added and a five bolt conversion. Some dealers did conversion work back in the 70's and 80's.

Given the prices in today's market and the cost of doing a conversion I would say the car is right in the ballpark on price.

I think the experts agree the factory did 49 of these, and there were 400 "kits" sold through dealership parts departments. I'm not sure how Mark can tell this is a conversion but Mark is one of the guys I consider to be an expert on parts for sure...

Without a VIN, I can't tell much, but if it's a 6 with steel flares, that is an absolute steal.

I don't get the 916 part, a 916 "kit" would have different bumpers. (glass)

GT flares is all he needed to say.

No pictures of engine compartment which is odd, no mention of engine size, seller is hiding something or doesn't know what he has?

I don't see ignition on left of wheel so I'd originally a /4 and more than likely still is.

Nice looking car and even if a /4 a good deal if no major rust hiding.

I've emailed the owner but no reply yet.

The car isn't really that close to me, well, it is and it isn't. I guess that depends on the owners reply to my questions about about the car.

I did ask about the engine and rust issues.

You provided the answers that the 'nice guy' seller 'forgot' to include.
" Factory", "original", "916", "GT" , rust free" all sound great but are meaningless
today.
Even pictures lie.
The car looks nice though.
