After 2 years of Obamagas the injectors are likely stuck and need cleaned.

Also get one of these, cheap and easy In-Line Spark Checker

Your political views have nothing to do with why the OP has no spark.

Keep them to yourself.

There is nothing political about the ethanol mandate destroying fuel systems of cars built before it. I just did a fuel pump on a 2005 Beetle that sat for 2 years, the plastic transfer tube crumbled and the rubber melted. Common pieces in all German cars.
Also I stepped in the puddle and it left half my sole in the concrete. It's also a problem for the couple cars I don't drive often.

OP mentioned he had 2 year old gas.... it is relevant if it's not squirting or has pre-ethanol hoses.

I'm calling it out. You wrote Obamagas. WTF....now you are gonna say that's not political.

For what it is worth, the Ethanol mandate was in 2005. So why don't we just call it Bushgas?

Gotta blame someone right?

Cary, lines through tunnel were changed at same time as fuel pump, just a few days ago. Now that I have it running again, I'm going to change points, condenser, distributor cap, spark plug wires and spark plugs, timing, and adjust valves. Thanks for kind words.

Ok.. both of you need to stop this conversation. If you keep it up, I am going to have to lock this thread, and I don't want to do it.

So how about we just drop this part and make it easier on everyone.

I Agree but I think it would have been better if you had spoken up first. When someone slips in this political BS the admins should step in and not leave it to a member to speak up first. I was a little pissed at the comment but kept it to myself.

Actually, I have been watching this thread. I was hoping that comment would just be ignored. I guess I was unlucky.

Like the cops, we can't be everywhere all the time. So if you see something, just drop one of us a note so we know what is going on. We can either edit the comment or delete it, and admonish the poster.

Now, we have a member here with a problem relating to his car. Let's concentrate on it.

I would look into an electronic ignition to replace the points. I happen to like the pertronix, but others have had bad luck with them. There are lots of threads on here about them. The only 914 we own with points is Elwood, the factory six. And I am waffling on the idea of installing one on him. (Keep it stock... More reliable.. Keep it stock.. More reliable)

Once you do that, you don't have to worry about slipping point gap any more.

And all of the cars have a set of points and condenser in the roadside repair kit. I can always install them to get us home if the pertronix fails. Betty just told me she still remembers the point gap... .016. So I have no doubt she would get home. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif)

Contrary to popular belief we admins don't actually read each and every post.

So unless someone is proactive and points out posts/threads to us, there's a good chance we'll miss it until ...
