Found this mess stuffed back in a corner of the engine bay (top of the motor, under the airbox-ish, passenger side).

It was "sealed" off with a piece of black electrical tape. So, decommissioned, I'm assuming.

This 1971 with a 1975 2.0 that I'm currently trying to sort out....I'm finding some very bodgy work that's been preformed. Not sure what's what.

So that leads me to my next question....

How do I identify my FI system? Can you tell from these pics?

You don't really show much of the engine/intake/fuel injection system.
The control unit you show and the harness at the relay panel is D-jet.

Is the connector in your first picture part of the FI harness going to the control unit¿

Does this help?

The original pic of the white wires was disconnected and stuffed up under the airbox, near the rear of the car with black tape on it. I'll need to trace it back, but looks as if it went to the box nearest the battery.

Maybe. But that 6 pole connector housing should’ve near to the ECU, not the engine grounds under the air filter box

There is a connection stuffed under the battery-ish that probably plugged into a box similar...but that was also disconnected and stuffed there (from my poking around there last night, I remember seeing the other side of the connector there).

The engine was swapped and maybe some bodgey stuff was done...that's what I'm trying to sort out.

The car does run, but it's not what I'd consider to be running at top form.
